Mike Huber, Upper New York Conference Director of Camp & Retreat Ministries, has announced that Matt Williams, Program Director at the Sky Lake Camp & Retreat Center in Windsor, will serve as the camp’s interim director.
Williams’ service comes during a time of leadership transition at the camp following the retirement of current Director Jim Krager after more than 45 years of ministry.
“Matt’s skill set has already been a great asset to Sky Lake and the entire Upper New York Conference,” Huber said. “His sense of humor and ability to build relationships make him ideal to serve in this interim role. I believe his passion for supporting the local church in discipleship and leadership development will make him excel.”
Williams joined Sky Lake as its program director in 2000 after spending several years in various roles on the summer staff.
“You can expect a continuation of the quality of programming at Sky Lake, perhaps some innovative programming ideas. I think there will be new energy and a lot of good things,” Krager said of Williams filling the interim role. “We’ve worked together for 14 years. ... I think the most important thing I would tell him, is to be true to himself and not get caught up in the trappings of the position, to stay humble, and to serve the Lord.”
In his spare time, Matt enjoys hiking, running, snowshoeing, digital and film photography, travelling, and spending time outside admiring God’s beautiful creation. He is the youngest of his siblings and is the proud uncle of four nieces and one nephew. He was a history and Canadian studies major at SUNY Plattsburgh.
“I’m not going to lie, I’m a little nervous about filling the shoes that Jim has held for so many years,” Williams shared. “I’m looking forward to the years ahead and seeing Sky Lake continue to prosper and grow, and to make sure it’s open to children, families and those with special needs (who) continue to experience God, creation and community.”
