Special Needs Winter Retreat 2018January 4th - January 6th, 2018

Special Needs Winter Retreat 2018

A retreat for persons (ages 15-65) with mild- to moderate-developmental disabilities needing minimal-to-no assistance with daily living skills. Enjoy outdoor and indoor winter activities like hiking, singing, worship, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, talent show, sledding, making snow angels, and more!

Sky Lake is owned and operated by the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. We have been serving guests since 1947 and first developed our Special Needs program in the 1960s. We believe our natural surroundings at Sky Lake to be the handiwork of God and do our best to make the great outdoors accessible to all of our special needs campers, at a pace that allows them to fully appreciate it—after all, time at Sky Lake is vacation for many of our campers!

Through all that we do we strive to provide our friends with special needs with a time and place in which they can experience a supportive, loving, and safe Christian community that honors, respects, and promotes each individual’s personhood. Our caring volunteer program staff will make sure each participant has a great time! A registered nurse will care for medical needs.

We welcome participants regardless of gender, race, and religion, but please note that we are unable to accommodate participants needing one-on-one care. Independent toileting and self-mobility skills are required as well.

S’more Time GatheringOn January 6th, 2018 March 24th, 2018

S’more Time Gathering

We have a long list of things that we absolutely love about camp here at Sky Lake, but at or near the top of our list is definitely the joy that comes from helping youth connect with one another. To help create and foster those connections beyond summer, we’re putting together a few gatherings from autumn to spring. These S’more Time Gatherings are geared toward youth in grades 6-12 and are open to individual youth and youth groups alike. Best of all they’re free!

S’more Time Gatherings will be held in (or around) Founders’ Lodge at Sky Lake on the following Saturdays:
January 6 from 2:00-4:30pm
March 24 from 2:00-4:30pm

Each gathering will feature intentional get-acquainted activities, large-group activities, small-group discussions, worship, and of course s’mores! While not required, reservations are greatly appreciated (so we know how many people we need to plan for, how to get a hold of leaders in the event of inclement weather, etc.)

Click to register for January 6th
Click to register for March 24th

Q: Are the S’more Time Gatherings only open to Sky Lake campers?
A: Nope! We welcome youth whether they’ve been a long-time Sky Laker, attended camp somewhere else, or have never been to camp!

Q: Do you have to be United Methodist to attend?
A: Of course not! You’re welcome at Sky Lake regardless of what church you attend, what state you live in, or whether you actually like s’mores or not.

Q: I’m not part of a youth group, can I still attend?
A: Absolutely! We’ll connect you with a group for the gathering.

Q: I’m over the age of eighteen (18) and would love to volunteer to help with these gatherings. How do I go about doing that?
A: It’s simple: complete the volunteer interest form at:

This is a classic trail run/walk through the woods of Sky Lake. Please wear appropriate footwear! The 5K race will be professionally timed.

Please note that in the event that conditions do not allow for our trail system to be used for the race, we will use an alternate lap course using the West Shore Field and Campground Road.

About the Campership Fund

Each summer hundreds of campers, volunteers, and paid staff enjoy classic camp programs designed for children, youth, families, and individuals with special needs. In addition to the funding available from local churches and organizations, almost 25% of our campers rely solely on the Campership Fund to make a week at Sky Lake possible.

This year’s Sky Lake 5K Trail Run & Walk brought to you in part by:

We invite individuals, families, churches, businesses, and organizations to consider co-sponsoring our 5K Trail Run & Walk. Sponsorship levels start at $50. Download our Sponsorship Flyer here and then contact us to add your name and/or logo here!

Spring Fling 2018May 25th - May 28th, 2018

Spring Fling 2018

Spring Fling at Sky Lake offers families of all ages, shapes, and sizes an excellent opportunity to get outside and enjoy time together relaxing, playing, learning, and growing in faith. A variety of activities are combined with ample free time, so when you aren’t making a craft, enjoying a sing-a-long, making ice cream, or going for a boat ride, you can sit back and toast a marshmallow, read a good book, or go for a hike. Your time is just that—yours!

Available Packages:

Campground (May 25-28)

Bring your own tent or camper and set up on one of twenty-five private campsites. Each campsite is located off the unpaved driveway that passes through the family campground. A handful of sites even come equipped with 110-Volt electricity hookups (hurry, these go quickly). Occupancy on each site is limited to six persons. An exception to this rule is granted for immediate families (parents and dependent children) comprised of more than six persons. Fire-rings and a picnic table are provided on each site, as campground guests cook their own food. Showering and toilet facilities are located in Caldwell Pavilion in the heart of the campground. The base fee includes a three-night stay and a small program fee. You may arrive any time on Friday and depart any time on Monday. Want to extend your weekend? Spend Thursday or Monday night for an additional fee.
Campground—non-electric site (5/25-28): $60 per site
Campground—non-electric site, early arrival (5/24): $13 per site
Campground—non-electric site, late departure (5/30): $13 per site

Campground—electric site (May 25-28): $80 per site
Campground—electric site, early arrival (5/24): $19 per site
Campground—electric site, late departure (5/29): $19 per site

West Shore Cabins (May 25-28)

The West Shore Cabins are the perfect choice for families looking for slightly more rustic accommodations than Riley Lodge, but aren’t too keen on spending a weekend in a tent. Each cabin has six bunk beds and one twin-size single bed. There are electric outlets and overhead lights in each cabin—so you don’t have to worry about fumbling around in the dark! Showering and toilet facilities are located in the West Shore Bathhouse, a short walk up the hill from the cabins. You may arrive any time after noon on Friday. Programming will end at noon on Monday.
West Shore Cabin (5/25-28): $105 per cabin

Riley Lodge (May 26-28)

Riley Lodge makes it simple for families to enjoy a weekend at Sky Lake without having to “rough it”! A series of two-, three-, four-, and five-person rooms are easily able to accommodate different sized families. We provide you with a bed and mattress, you bring the linens. Bathrooms are located just across the hall or within the room. Meals are included in the Riley Lodge option and will be taken in Founders’ Lodge. And good news for immediate families with more than three members—you’ll be charged a maximum of $475.00 (excluding Friday night option)! You may arrive any time after 11:00am on Saturday. Meal service will begin at noon that day. Programming will end at noon on Monday.
